Interview Advice
There's one particular philosophy that says you have all the resources that you need to succeed, you simply need to identify them. This section of our site provides you with simple guidance, that successful interviewees have employed in securing the job that they want.
1. Do your homework
- Surf the web; check out their website for information on the company. Read what you can about them and their philosophy.
- Make connections; talk to someone who works there (or who has worked there) its interesting what you can find out.
- Know the job; ask for as much information as they'll give you about the job then look for ways in which you can apply your experience.
2. Be clear on what you want and what you're passion about
- Personal satisfaction; what's important to you, what are you passionate about, what gives you satisfaction, what gets you up in the morning?
- Personal ambition and goals; what are your career goals, where do you want to go, what would make you make you really want a particular job, and what would make you leave quickly?
3. Believe this job is yours
- Close your eyes and just let your mind wander. You have now been doing this job for three months. Ask yourself - where are you right now? What can you see? What can you hear? How do you feel? How has it felt since you got told after the interview that you had been successful?
4. Choose the right image
- How do you look; clothes and appearance are also part of your non-verbal communication. Clothes give you credibility. Choose wisely as track suit and trainers won't be suitable for a management position! First impressions are formed incredibly quickly.
- The handshake; weak, wet and clammy just doesn't do it for anyone when it comes to a handshake. When you shake someone's hand make sure you give the right signals.Match the person giving you the handshake, in touch and in firmness.
- Who are you "being"; there is a superb concept that everything you see in someone else is something being mirrored about you - it is called 'perception is projection'. So think about who you are being. Are you cool, calm and confident or are you nervous, self conscious and terrified. What you send out is what you will get.
5. Above all else be yourself, be who you are
- It's not a drama audition; just be you because just you is great, is honest, has integrity and has passion about the position you're trying to get.
